The curriculum offered in FLORA ENGLISH
SCHOOL is broadly based, allowing our pupils the experience of range and
variety. The delivery of the curriculum is carefully planned to ensure that
basic skills, concepts and essential knowledge are adequately covered by all
pupils and suitably paced in accordance with their ability. Members of staff
are regularly involved in professional development, continually improving their
own knowledge and skills by attending courses, working alongside colleagues and
practising new skills learned. Our Improvement Plan enables us to focus our
training and identify our priorities for development. We also monitor the
progress of areas which have already been developed, to evaluate the
effectiveness of the developments.

The relationship between pupil and
teachers is similar to that between a child and his or her own parents
requiring mutual consideration on both sides. Co-operation between parents and
school is essential, and it is therefore important to foster greater
understanding between parents and teachers.
The School has a positive code of
conduct that rewards good behaviour and effort. Parental support is sought
every 4 weeks when Marks Cards are sent home.

The purpose of
the Student Leadership course is to provide our students a voice on issues that
affect them greatly. Students involved with Student Council will have the
opportunity to represent their classmates and bring forward ideas that will necessitate
change for the student body. Students will make use of polls to determine which
issues are of greatest importance and to make sure that all of the classmates
they represent have a stake in decisions that are made regarding the student
body. Every student involved in the program will also participate in a
service-oriented project that will allow them to help others outside of their
school community. Development of these projects will find students setting
goals and milestones to track the effect

The School
expects pupils to conduct themselves in keeping with their levels of
development, maturity and demonstrated capabilities with proper regard for the
rights and welfare of other pupils and school staff, the educational purpose underlying
all school activities, and the care of school facilities and equipment. The
district prohibits active or passive support for harassment, intimidation, or
bullying. Pupils are encouraged to support other pupils who walk away from
these acts when they see them, constructively attempt to stop them, and report
these acts to the appropriate school personnel. The district’s Counseling
Curriculum is to be used as a resource in creating a safe and welcoming
environment for all students and staff.
